Clearing up some rumors...........

I would like to take this time to clear up some rumors that are going around about the stand outs that happened on May 1st. First of all, The union members that did the standouts in CT and RI were all Local 2323 members. 5 out of the 8 members were former Cox employees. The service time for those members that were formally employed by Cox ranged from 3-9 years. One of the former employees of Cox was terminated for policy issues and another was set up for being a union supporter. The other 3 former Cox employees left for the same reasons, BETTER PAY, BETTER BENEFITS, AND JOB SECURITY! I think I can speak for all of them now and say that WE ARE ALL IN A BETTER SITUATION NOW BECAUSE OF THE IBEW 2323! The other rumor going around was that we were making double time when we were doing the standout? WRONG!!! At our new employer we have a schedual called a DU schedual. What this is is the company, once a month, gives us a schedualed day off during the week and then we come in and work for straight time on Saturday. You probably are asking, What is you're working schedual? It is Monday - Friday 7:30am to 4:30p with 2 15 minute breaks and an hour lunch. If you do not have DU that week you can come in for Saturday on a time and a half salary. You ask, What about Sunday? Sunday is time and a half too up to 12 hours. After the 12 hours of time and a half it goes to double time. Yes double time! Just to clear the air , other than Craig Duffy, None of the members were paid for the stand out. It was strickly voluntary. Actually we passes up about $319.20 to do the stand out! That would be 7 IBEW 2323 members times $319.20. The grand total is $2234.40! We did the stand out because we have friends and people that we care about that work for Cox and wanted them to know that we still support you. We climb the same poles and are in the same craft, WHY DON'T WE GET PAID THE SAME? WHY AREN'T THE BENEFITS THE SAME? These are the questions that Cox techs should be asking. Also. some Cox supervisors were saying that we do not make the money an hour that we claim to make. OH YEAH? That is why we are going to put up our pay stubs on this website so we can squash that lie! Our time of service with the IBEW 2323 ranges from 12 to 14 months. In closing, I would like to thank all of the support and for all the dedication of Cox employees! You're management team might not recognize you but the IBEW does! STAY SAFE, STAY STRONG, WORK UNION!!!

YOURS IN SOLIDARITY,

DON VITO

Dr. von doom

Thanx pal! Really never went anywhere though! I enjoyed seeing some of my former co-workers and soon to be future brothers and sisters in Connecticut and Rhode Island. It's nice to also see some warm receptions from the managers as well. von doom if you need to get a hold of me at anytime you can email me at donvito2323@verizon.net if you have any questions or want to meet up and discuss some issues! Yours in solidarity, DON VITO

Yo vito, welcome back

Glad to see you guys again, you looked like you were all having a good ol time out there.  At least this time around Craig picked a better time of year to stand outside.

I have been at Verizon long before it was Verizon....and  one of my questions has always been this...if they do the SAME JOB...why shouldn't they get the same pay? Why shouldn't they be entitled to the same BENEFITS that we are? People fought for what we have today....probably not something that you would understand....standing up for someone besides yourself...I think they should be entitled to the same things as us. The same money, the same benefits, the same feeling of looking forward to going to work everyday just as I do. Being allowed to do their job the right way...and not based on points. The people that stood out and will continue to stand out are not forced to stand out there, they appreciate what they have and want others to have the same opportunity. So...I hope FRIENDS that you join us and increase your way of living and receive what you DESERVE!!!

BS

Friends at Cox? Yeah right, the only reason for all this is that the union wants to grow their membership - period! without it the union won't survive and will continue to have less and less members. The union doesn't force anyone to do stand out but it highly recommends - so the new recruits better be there in support of their organization.

If you are actually a tech

If you are actually a tech and not management then you can not possibly believe the bs you wrote. I can tell you that nearly all of the techs love the job but hate that they are not allowed to do it properly. they have a points standard to meet, and have to move on. The techs want to be paid better and have better benefits. they are disgusted with the way the company is going. get to as many customers as possible, no wonder quality of work suffers. no wonder the customers get so pissed with us.

IBEW Local 2323 has grown by

IBEW Local 2323 has grown by over 250 members in the last three years. This campaign is at the request of Cox employees who want a voice at work.

I know why

Management will tell you the same old thing "we feel that we pay you a good amount, the equity study proves it." I guess it does prove it, that your superiors compare you to other technicians in the state, just not other utilities. Actually to Don's point I would have actually been on double time half way through the day making 53.20/hr and I still have another raise to make in September. Which will make my double time 62.40/hr.
